INDEX (2009)

INDEX is a short film written and directed by first-time director Simon Davis. A thought-provoking story about the nature of reality with some stunning effects photography.

Sam Morgan and Rebecca Youens feature and much of the film is shot at The Blue Walnut cafe in Torquay - a long-time supporter of arts in Torbay with a 24 seat cinema at the back.

The film is shot in full HD (high definition) 1080/25p video with a Sony EX1 CineAlta. The high picture quality and 25fps progressive image capture gives it a distinct film-look rather than the smooth live-look of video.

MOVING ASIDE (2009)

MOVING ASIDE is a sister production to MOVING ON. Both titles will be released together on a DVD and available as a complete programme for Film clubs etc to screen.

Also set in an amateur theatre company MOVING ASIDE is Ken Jarvis’ tale. He has been in the Company for almost 20 years and is a much respected stalwart – but as the narrative unfolds we realise that he is in denial as an alcoholic. His condition gives rise to one or two incidents and he is in conflict with the new chairman of the company who, for the first time, is a woman. Ken is at first dismissive of her but as she shows her mettle in dealing with him and his problems he has to grudgingly accept her status and get to grips with his own problems.

MOVING ON (2008)

Our first production, prior to formally setting up FirstEye was MOVING ON undertaken with TOADS Theatre Company. A thirty five minute monologue in which the main character Helen relates her experience as a member of a small town amateur theatre company set in the 1970’s

After three years in the Company she has become a regular but only gets bit parts and chores to do. Then through an accident of fortune she gets her big break, the chance to play the lead in a major production. But it all starts to unravel as she struggles to deal with the complications of being a widow surrounded by married couples.

Helen was something of a tour de force for Anna Reynolds and a first for a completely inexperienced crew undertaking what started out as a workshop exercise and developed into a completed production.

Anna Reynolds, Liz McGinnes (director) and Theron Melland (sound recordist) in a scene from 'Moving On'.
